Our guest blogger this week is Lori Thoman, Marketing Coordinator for Superior Graphics: Okay, let me just start out by saying that I do not like going to the hardware store at all.  Maybe it’s the two house remodels I’ve barely lived through or the thousands of trips to get “a couple of things” to get a weekend project started, but it is one of the last places that I want to go. When I think of a hardware store, I automatically think of the mega huge chain stores that are planted nationwide. That’s what I’m used to and that’s my experience.  Here is ...

Our guest blogger this week is Leila Martin, Account and Purchasing Manager here at Superior Graphics: Coffee. Some love it, some hate it and some just love the smell of it.  You can add cream or sugar, drink it black, make it any way you want to make your morning yours.  I have tried to quit drinking coffee just to see if I can, but 4 days of hell with a migraine doesn't seem like a smart idea when it's obvious coffee likes me too.  Coffee is part of our morning ritual.  It's familiar.  It's bold (or weak if you're one of those but don't worry we love you all the ...

I bought a van today. No, not the one in the picture, a better one. Superior has had our old delivery van for going on 14 years and over 500,000 miles. Yes, it was time for a new van. I enjoy shopping for cars, even when I’m not really in the market. Shopping for a plain vanilla delivery van doesn’t quite deliver the fun factor for me, but I dove in anyway. I went to Ebay, Craigslist, Autotrader…the usual sources. I really didn’t want to travel for this vehicle and besides, how hard is it to find a white van anyway? Not that hard, as it turns out. I ...

The following was written and submitted by Adrian W. Burroughs, Prepress Manager here at Superior Graphics: I was literally pulling out my hair this week because of this problem: Working in prepress, some people may think we're the “lazy guys”. You know the type…the ones behind the computer monitor staring at the screen all day. On the contrary, we are detectives and problem-solvers most of the day. I will give you one such example: What was the issue you ask? PDF vs. Native file workflow. This is an issue as large as… Lamborghini vs. Ferrari, much the ...

I like Axe brand deodorant. More specifically, I like Axe brand Dark Temptation deodorant. I’ve used it for years. It smells good. Even if you don’t like the smell, it's still better than not using deodorant at all. I also like to shop at Walgreens. I find myself at Walgreens fairly regularly, either the one by my house, or another one on my way home from work. We also seem to have a CVS across the intersection from (both) Walgreens locations. I rarely go into CVS. I have nothing against CVS, I think I just started going to Walgreens first and the habit stuck. This ...

This week we are pleased to have a guest blogger, Brandon Strull from BMS Services. BMS sells packaging supplies and is a valued partner and has always delivered exceptional customer service. I am pleased that Brandon accepted my invitation to write a blog entry. Enjoy! “Take Care of Your Customers, And the Money will Take Care of Itself.” Welcome to the world of sales. One of the many professions that, if you can do it, and I mean really do it, you can turn yourself into a wealth of knowledge, friends, and…wealth. If you can't do it, you might find yourself ...

People say customer service is dead. Of course, that's not strictly true, but we have so many mediocre customer service experiences that we all tend to lower our expectations. I think I'm getting more sensitive to noticing both good and bad customer service since I attended last month's DScoop conference in San Antonio. Most of the sessions I attended focused on delivering customer experiences and improving the quality of customer "touchpoints". So, I bought a suit a couple of weeks ago. Nothing fancy, just a casual jacket and pants. When I got home, I set about cutting ...

I’m Lori Thoman, Marketing Coordinator here at Superior Graphics. Our President, (John Ehrenberger) is supposed to be our Chief Blogger. After writing a whopping TWO blog posts, John promoted me (no increase in pay) to Guest Blogger this week.  Thanks. I thought it would be helpful to talk about our marketing process for any of you that might have to come up with marketing ideas from time to time. This post features our new marketing piece for one of our target markets, quick-serve restaurants. These customers use a ton of graphics and need kitting and ...

I went to a conference a while back and one of the sessions was about organization. Real organization. Where everything like scissors and rulers had a special assigned spot and a little outline of scissors and rulers on the wall so you’d know where to put things again when you were finished using them. We thought that would be a great idea to implement at Superior Graphics. We had a meeting and talked about how we could start that program, and then maybe one more meeting. And then…Nothing. Sometimes, our facility actually looks pretty nice and straight. At other ...

Over the last year, we have tried to identify areas for improvement throughout the company. One topic that seems to always make the list is communication, as in, “we are bad at communication around here”. A common complaint, right? Just about everyone I speak to that works in (insert name of any industry here) complains that there is no good mechanism in place to keep people up to date on things. In light of that, about a year ago we decided to try something different. I went out and purchased several 48” LCD color monitors and placed them around the building ...
